Scott Fitzgerald showed, as he had in many of his other novels, his love for wealth. It was common to see young people in his novel, he believed that the young people in the 1920s were the ones to have really captured the atmosphere of the 'Roaring Twenties'. Babbitt is a man, George F. Babbitt. Babbitt is a 46-year-old real estate salesman. Babbitt lives in the Midwestern city of Zenith. The life of Babbitt is wonderful, thriving business, wife and three children, beautiful home and a amazing car. But the riches of the world does not fully satisfies Babbitt since he feels an emptiness in his life. Babbitt is dissatisfied with his marriage and career. He decided that he should go on a trip to Maine with a friend who also feels the same emptiness. The trip was only refreshing but not life changing. Babbitt then meets Tanis Judique and has an affair with her. He then later becomes involve with her friends and meet for obstacles. Many decisions that Babbitt needed to make, most of them he did refused. There were many times when Babbitt became even more depressed being in the situation he brought himself into. The book captures the more political and economical aspects of the 1920s rather then the dancing, drinking, and joyful cheers of the 'Roaring Twenties'. It truly displays how there were some Americans that weren't in the era of celebration but rather depression and emptiness. But in the 1930s, many will be able to relate to his grief since after the 'Roaring Twenties' was the Great Depression.
